Connecting BACnet to TAC

You have two devices in two different buildings on two completely different networks, one that uses the BACnet MSTP protocol to communicate, while the other one talks TAC I-Net protocol and they need to talk to each other. What do you do?

A FieldServer is a protocol converter or gateway that can communicate in many different protocols and physical layers including BACnet MSTP protocol and the TAC I-Net protocol. The Fieldserver acts as a middle man between the two devices. It reads data from one device, stores it internally and makes it available to the 2nd device using another protocol. This is how the FieldServer converts BACnet MSTP data to TAC I-Net data.

It's a simple solution to a common problem that we can help you with.

BACnet MSTP

BACnet MSTP is part of the ASHRAE’s BACnet family of protocols that operates on the MSTP RS485 network. With the help of FieldServer we can set and retrieve BACnet data from your device and make it available to many different devices no matter what protocol they use. The FieldServer can convert BACnet MSTP to an impressive set of other building automation protocols by acting as a middle man or protocol converter between two different protocols. Talks BACnet MSTP on one side and anything else on the other. More information, Driver Data Sheet

TAC I-Net

Profibus, utility companies, hospitals, universities, national laboratories-they all require seamless and 100-percent effective security systems they can depend on day in and day out. TAC and I/NET Seven provide powerful and reliable security solutions for some of the world’s most demanding applications, with features that make your systems easy to install, operate, integrate, expand and maintain-throughout the life of your facilities.

I/NET Seven is a powerful and reliable security solution with features that make your systems easy to install, operate, integrate, expand and maintain – throughout the life of your facilities. No other security product gives you the power of I/NET Seven backed by the experience and expertise of an industry leader. You can rely on TAC and I/NET Seven for all your security needs.

The TAC-I/Net driver allows the FieldServer to transfer data to and from Server and Client devices on a MR LAN over RS-485 using TAC-I/Net driver protocol. The protocol works over a multidrop RS-485 line and allows only one Client and up to 32 Servers on a network channel. Servers are assigned station addresses that range from 0 to 31. The Client does not have a station address. If more than 320 points are needed on the I/net network an alternative is for the customer to purchase the 7797-15 Modbus RTU interface card. This interface card will allow 2000 points to be passed to the I/net Sublan. This will change the application from I/net to Modbus, but it will work.
