You have two devices in two different buildings on two completely different networks, one that uses the Cummins protocol to communicate, while the other one talks Optomux Opto22 protocol and they need to talk to each other. What do you do?
A FieldServer is a protocol converter or gateway that can communicate in many different protocols and physical layers including Cummins protocol and the Optomux Opto22 protocol. The Fieldserver acts as a middle man between the two devices. It reads data from one device, stores it internally and makes it available to the 2nd device using another protocol. This is how the FieldServer converts Cummins data to Optomux Opto22 data.
It's a simple solution to a common problem that we can help you with.
Cummins generator and Automatic Transfer Switches (ATS) controls support Lonworks on a FTT10 network. We have worked closely with Cummins Western Canada to develop tested interfaces to BACnet and other protocols.
Our solutions can be configured so that you do not need to 'Commission' and 'Bind'. These two processes require Lonworks software tools and expertise. If required we can avoid this by using an explicit lonworks configuration which uses Network Management functions for data transfer. This type of solution works as effectively but makes installation very simple.
We have provided solutions for Power Command controllers ATS, PCC2101, PCC2100, PCC3200, PCC3201, PCC1301, PCC1302
Our solutions offer more connectivity than the Modlon which supports Modbus with limited options.More information
The Optomux Driver allows the FieldServer to transfer data to and from devices over either RS-232 or RS-485 using the Optomux Driver protocol. The Optomux driver is a client only driver and can poll an Optomux protocol compliant device but not emulate one.
The Optomux protocol provides a large command set. Many of the commands are used for OPTO22 device configuration. This driver supports the full command set and thus the driver may be used to configure as well as to poll OPTO22 devices.
The Optomux driver provides three methods of operation. Users may use any combination of methods.
Static Operation : If the hardware configuration is fixed and known then this is a suitable method. The devices to be polled/commanded are configured using the FieldServer CSV file.
Dynamic Operation : If the hardware configuration may change or if hardware settings may change dynamically or (more realistically) if you wish to change some aspect of the hardware configuration such as a delay time or reset a latch without changing the CSV file and resetting the FieldServer then this operating method is suitable. The commands set can be configured by changing the values in the FieldServer’s data arrays. This operating mode may be considered a data driven one.
Triggered Operation : This operating mode allows commands to be triggered by changing the value in the FieldServer’s data arrays. This operating mode is useful if requiring an action triggered by a remote device.More information, Driver Data Sheet
