Chipkin Automation Systems is hiring a C++ software developer. 


Job title: Junior/Intermediate Software Developer.  

Location: Vancouver, BC, Canada

Hours: Tuesday to Friday 9-5pm (flexible)

Job Description

As a Software Developer, you will be expected to contribute to all aspects of software development, including the writing design documentation, coding, unit testing, integration testing, and debugging. This will also extend to troubleshooting and support for our customers.


You will be joining a team that builds a variety of software, from low-level communications protocols in C++, on the Microsoft Windows, and Linux platforms. To be successful, you must be adaptable, flexible and a quick learner with a “can do” attitude.


This is a permanent position for someone who wants to work a 4 or 5 day week. Travel opportunities exist but travel is not required.

About Chipkin Automation Systems

We make, sell, support, develop and configure protocol gateways used to connect a device which supports one protocol to another. For example: Modbus enabled Power Meter to a Control System for Building and Industrial Automation like Siemens Apogee which uses the BACnet protocol.

  • CAS primarily develops C++ applications for the Windows and Linux platforms.
  • CAS creates SDKs/APIs for third parties to their own applications.
  • CAS makes protocol converters and gateways between two or more different industrial protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Suggesting, scoping, designing and implementing new software components for our platforms.
  • Evaluating new technologies for their feasibility and usefulness.
  • Taking ownership of specific tools over their entire life-cycle, from early design stages to post-release support.
  • Working with customers to create protocol drivers for custom environments.

Required Skills

All of the following skills are required. (Must have)


  • A good understanding of C/C++
  • Experience with creating SQL queries
  • Windows/Linux OS – Installation, general usage, command line, etc
  • Windows/Linux-based software development
  • TCP/IP, UDP, and Serial (RS232)
  • Understanding of object-oriented and functional programming concepts

Preferred Skills

None of these skills are required. (Nice to have)


  • Experience with PCB design and schematics.
  • Experience with software version management systems and task/bug tracking software.
  • Experience with Microprocessor or Embedded experience: Arduino & Raspberry PI or other.
  • Experience with RESTful web technologies.
  • Experience with bringing a product to market.
  • Experience with any of the following technologies; SSL, DNS, STL.
  • Experience with build systems/continuous integration.
  • Experience with automated unit testing and TDD.
  • Information and Embedded security.
